Bride and prejudice
Production Company – Pathe! –advertising
- Indian music and doll drums – this introduces the setting, which is in India. The different shots show the setting and the characters while also showing the titles come up.
- The title are shown in a quirky and fancy font
- We then see a young adult aged around 21-24 on a donkey cart roaming around on the Indian farm, she appears to be wearing lower class casual clothing, showing that there is a contrast to the people we then eventually see.
- While the titles appear we see some American people coming out of a aeroplane dressed in upper-class clothing to show a contrast between them and India, as India is quite poor and unorganised, and the American people look rich and professional, this intrigues us, because we want to know their purpose in being in India.
- These two class boundaries are the OBSTACLES, which soon have to be faced.
- We soon see that the rich Americans find it hard to deal with the lifestyle, and then we see a shot reverse shot of the girl on the donkey cart doing labour and is use to it.
- We hear loud noise of animals and cars, showing that India isn’t really organised, but the people are use to it, so they function fine, only people who aren’t use to the lifestyle will find it hard.
- We then get introduced to the mother who is eager to get the daughters married, ‘ we must make sure that Jayah meets this Balraj from London before anyone else’, showing she is desperate.
- They soon go at a grand house for a wedding, which allows us to meet everyone important.
- As Balraj enters every mother stares (eyeing) him, this adds humour as he looks uncomfortable.
- Then the dance music comes, which brings the Indian genre and vibe back.
- Keeps us interested as we want to see the clash of culture and class.
