Pretty in Pink opening sequence Analysis

Pretty in Pink

-          Its starts with the production companies name for. Firstly advertising and familiarisation.

-          Titles – production, starring etc.

-          Music – old pop, funky

-          Shows the location in a panning shot

-          What happens in the first scene – it shows girls getting ready, and putting their tights on, earrings and it basically shows woman making themselves look attractive. 

-          The music is actually saying ‘Pretty in pink’. After its shows a mirror shot of the girls putting makeup on.

-          After it introduces another character which is the Dad,

-          And then shows the daughter getting food ready and motivating the father. Shows that the daughter is like a mother figure, 2 contrasting characters.

-          The dad says ‘you look beautiful, showing they are close.

-          The second location is the school

-          This introduces other characters and the different ‘clicks’ (group), so it makes the audience familiar with them.

-          This gets us interested with the relationships with the different characters,  so we want to know who ends up falling in love with who, is it someone we wouldn’t expect ?
